The place of the United States among the world is no doubt to me the most influencable and irreplaceable one. She is functioning as a model for the whole world on many aspects: recycling, environmental protection, human rights, technology and so on...

I agree with what Briana said towards the question "how did America come to this place". America has been receiving help and giving help to other countries which I think of it as a "OPEN" policy basically. The US is a OPEN country so that every is welcomed to come here and create his own property here-- which is part of the "American Dream" that we discussed about on class before. America is now having goods being manufactored in everywhere: China, Korea, Japan... In the mean time she is also helping other countries with military training, arm manufacturing and so on. What make America as strong as it is today is to a large scale because of its opening to the outside world and welcoming different things from outside world such as religion, food and culture and language... Trading with other countries are certainly a good method to make profit-- trading with Indians when the English colonizers came to the new land, trading with British during WWII... I would say USA knows exactly what she wants and makes good use and takes advantage of what she have got in hand.

i agree with yujia's point that America could become strong country because they have open-minded and welcome stuffs from other countries. For example, in Korea, there was a king that isolate our country from other countries because the king felt the afraid minds about other countries's cultures. Because of isolate policy, i think that Japan could control the Korea not that hard.
The America was ready and challenge to other things such as other cultures. This kind of attitude makes America strong.

Question What is the US' role in the world?
I would say the US is like a big brother in the international and every international event seems relate to him. And the America has the pride as he sees himself the strongest as a heroic figure; he thinks he has the great responsibility to take care evryone but in the other hand he also think he has the right to fight for what he want. Thus, the comments to the America's role in the role are really distinct. One side, he is a hero but in contrast he might also be seen as a trouble maker or the bossy one!

Question How did the US get there?
The history of the US leads to the US today. " World War II was over, but much of the world now lay in ruins. ...United States was spared most of the destruction.... In many ways, the war had been good to the United States." (590) " It had decisively ended the Depression Government regulation and planning took root during the war." (590) Since then, the America was keep ahead than the other countries.
