While all the options have problems, I would support number three because it values peace and stability. An extension of political courtesy can go a long way in preventing war. While they no longer share a common enemy in Nazi Germany, the U.S. and the Soviets worked well together in WW11 and they should now extend that beyond warttime.
If the U.S. aids in the rebuilding of Eastern Europe, maybe they could foster more common interests and make a powerful ally out of the Soviets. WW1 taught us that all the Great Powers must cooperate to maintain peace.
I like either option 2 or option 3. Neither goes to and extreme, which I think would be a bad way for us to proceed if we wanted to avoid war. While option 1 would guarantee that we get what we want, it would cause a lot of worldwide controversy. The 4th option of isolating ourselves also wouldn't really work for us, because historically we have tried to right situations that were (or, to us, seemed) wrong, and cutting off any foreign relations would hurt our economy.
I like option 3 better than option 2, because our intervening with other countries problems has often ended up as an excuse or a problem for us. It might be easier in this situation to just agree to disagree, which is what option 3 is. If we were still able to trade and do business with the rest of europe, the communism in Russia wouldn't be too big a threat for us and our economy.
