While I was reading through the westward expansion packet, I came across a question that said, " At this point, [1856] could the Civil War have been avoided? I found the question very interesting and was wondering everyone's thoughts. Do you think it could have been avoided? If so, how? If not, why? |

This may seem rediculous but I believe that the Civil war could have been prevented if slavery was never put to an end in the North. If slavery continued in the North then the South wouldnt have to follow extra rules such as the Three-fifths Compromise or fight back with the Gag Rule playing tit-for-tap to lead to their secede from the Union. Slavery was the seed of their seperation and if the North never decided to fix something that was never broken then they would not have to worry about competing with the South for land, henceforth power. |
