Hi guys I looked really hard at political issues, and most things seem to relate to politics. Just thought I'd let you know some sites that I went to that may help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_and_Ohio_Railroad
http://www.42explore2.com/railroad.htm
www.ushistory.org/us/25b.asp
http://www.gatewaynmra.org/articles/civil-war1.htm
http://www.bushong.net/dawn/about/college/ids100/history.shtml
http://www.flowofhistory.com/units/eme/17/FC112

I don't know if they'll help but I thought maybe you'd take a look. also I don't know what pictures we want. I kind of focused on over all and then focused on the B&O RR and the transcontinental. I also talked a bit about what they did during the civil war as a kind of FUN FACT. See ya tomorrow. I'll try and print some things out. Good Luck!

In the early 1860’s, The United States government actively extended rail lines across the country. US congress granted federal land to develop railroads. The first grant built a railroad from Chicago to Alabama. Congress passed the Pacific Railroad Act in 1862 which was giving two companies (The Union Pacific, The Central Pacific) responsibility for building the railroad. Also, they invested millions of dollars in government loans to the railroad companies.

The Central Pacific Company built the railroad heading to eastward from Sacrament. And the Union Pacific Company built the railroad heading to westward from Omaha. They accomplished the construction of the first continental railroad

William Strickland supported by Pennsylvania, who was sent to collect information on construction of railroads in Europe, imported an English locomotive called the Stourbridge Lion to America. The West point foundry of New York invented the first American steam locomotive called the Best Friend of Charleston and provided to the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company. The South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company constructed the first US railroad carrying freights and driving passengers.
