1) The gracchi brothers wanted land reform because thy saw the devastation poverty had reaped in the Italian country side, and wanted to do something to help them. THe rich were extremely opposed because they didn't want to lose their land, and ultimately their money.
2) They change a lot of laws, many of which are part of rome's foundation. One can predict that the aristocracy will become angered, and use their power to revolt.
3) If I were a senator, I would propose a monument of honour to the Gracchi because the succeeded in distributing the wealth of Rome more evenly, and made movements towards a less classist city. The statue would look like two brothers holding their hands up, with intertwined fingers. |
