Most of Neilston lies within the North Neilston and West Arthurlie electoral ward.[21] The village forms part of the county constituency of East Renfrewshire, electing one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Jim Murphy of the Scottish Labour Party is the MP for East Renfrewshire.[22] Before the constituency's creation in 2005, Neilston lay in the Eastwood constituency, represented by Jim Murphy. For purposes of the Scottish Parliament, Neilston forms part of the Eastwood constituency, which is represented by Kenneth Macintosh MSP, also of the Labour party,[23] in addition to this Neilston is represented by seven regional MSPs from the West of Scotland electoral region.[24]
